Treating with Stone Armor

Flagstone, Sandstone and other porous stones are very susceptible to erosion and “sanding”.   Stone Armor penetrates into the stone and does not allow water to fill in the voids, which extends the life of the stone.  Heat, sun, and water exposure will accelerate the erosion. We recommend treating and resealing your stone annually depending on your individual environment. Sealers do not last forever.  Resealing is determined by traffic, stone porosity, and most importantly, Mother Nature.  Resealing the stone will refresh the look of the flagstone and extend its life.  Due to the penetrating properties of Stone Armor, subsequent treatments require significantly less product to reapply.

 When to reapply Stone Armor

Stone Armor provides color enhancement and sealing to most porous surfaces.  As with all sealers, it also deteriorates over time, mostly dependant on direct sunlight and abrasion (traffic).  Treated stone that is mostly out of direct sunlight on a vertical surface will last 2+ years.  Stone that is in full sun on a well used pathway around a pool can require reapplication annually.  Depending on how much “pop” you want your flagstone to have, you can reapply as frequently as you see fit.

Touchup Treatments

Individual pieces of stone can be dissimilar from the piece next to it.  Touchup treatments with Stone Armor are easy if a certain piece happens to erode or flake.  Stone Armor will cause the deteriorated sand to “clump” together in larger flakes, versus deteriorating just to sand, causing the typical “sanding”. This makes touchups convenient and low maintenance.  Simply clean the stone either by power washing or a high pressure hose, let dry completely, and then reapply Stone Armor to seal the stone.

Best Practices

We recommend spaying Stone Armor on horizontal and vertical surfaces with a  2 gallon Advanced Armor sprayer.  Spraying it allows the product to saturate the porous stone.  Using a roller for any puddling will pick up any excess product and allow you to move it to other areas.  Take your time and work the product into the stone from all angles to ensure complete saturation.

Surface temperature should be between 50F and 80F. If the surface temperature is above 80F, Stone Armor will cure too fast to ensure saturation.  Optimal time to apply is in the morning or out of direct sunlight.

Stone Armor

Natural Stone Sealer and Enhancer

~Stone Armor is a unique single-step formula designed to enhance, seal, and protect

the natural beauty of porous stone.

  • Enriches color
  • One step application
  • Reduces UV penetration
  • Great for salt water pools
  • Dries fast - 2 hours to touch
  • Leaves stone looking very natural
  • Forms a breathable barrier that resists stains

Please read all instructions carefully before beginning any project.

Natural stone such as flagstone, limestone, slate, travertine, sandstone, tumbled stone,

Austin stone, and other porous stones and surfaces.  For use on porous surfaces only,

not intended for polished, reflective surfaces.

Use in a well-ventilated area, away from heat and flame. Avoid spraying in windy, dusty,

or wet conditions. Do not use while smoking. For best results apply to natural stone

surfaces at a temperature above 50°F and humidity below 85% to ensure proper

Remove dust, dirt, debris, grease, water, and other contaminants from area to be coated.

1. Clean surface with pressure washer and allow at least 24hrs to dry, then mask areas

not intended to be sprayed. Do not use with other stone sealer/enhancer products, as

variations in the final appearance may result.

2. Manually shake or stir contents for a minimum of 2 minutes before use and keep

agitated while applying. A small trial patch in an inconspicuous area should be applied

before coating the entire surface.

3. Liberally apply using a roller brush, pump up garden sprayer, brush, paint pad or by

dipping. Distribute Stone Armor evenly to help avoid lapmarks and keep the color

uniform. If clogging occurs, use paint pad or brush.

5. Apply liberally leaving an an even coat, do not allow puddling. Some applications may

require more than one coat to achieve desired protection. Multiple thin coats are better

than one thick coat. Drying time will vary depending on surface humidity and thickness

of application. Allow a minimum of 2 hour before using the surface. The longer the cure

time the better the seal. Avoid exposing treated surfaces to detergents, soaps, oils,

solvents, or high-pressure water. Use only low-pressure water to clean. Also avoid

scrubbing with brushes or abrasive cleaners.

Flagstone - 125-175 sq. ft/gal.
Travertine - 200-300 sq.ft/gal.

SHELF LIFE:  18 Months

APPROXIMATE GALLON COVERAGE: Depending on porosity of stone: 150-450 sq. ft./gal. - Cover plants and shrubs. - Keep containers out of sunlight. - Store containers in an upright manner to prevent leakage. - Move all objects that could come in contact with overspray. - Containers must not be washed out or used for other purposes. - Dispose of all empty containers according to all federal, state, and local regulations. - Always test in a small, inconspicuous place before treating the entire surface to make sure there is no unwanted discoloration or damage.

WARNING: FLAMMABLE: Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames. HARMFUL OR FATAL IF SWALLOWED. Do not ingest. HARMFUL VAPORS. Avoid prolonged exposure to vapors. Use only in a well- ventilated area. For spray application, use a pump-up garden sprayer. DO NOT USE A POWER SPRAYER. Use a respirator if unsure that work area is well-ventilated. A NIOSH-approved respirator with a combination HEPA/organic vapor cartridge is recommended. Follow respirator manufacturer’s instructions for use. MAY CAUSE EYE, SKIN AND RESPIRATORY IRRITATION. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wear solvent-resistant gloves such as nitrile gloves. KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. Do not store above 100°F/38°C. Do not mix with other chemicals. FIRST AID PROCEDURES Eye Contact: Wash eyes with a warm, mild soap and water solution until irritation subsides. If irritation persists, call a physician. Skin: Wash with soap and warm water. Inhalation: If overcome by vapor, remove from exposure and call a physician immediately. If breathing is irregular or has stopped, start resuscitation. Administer oxygen if available. Ingestion: If ingested, DO NOT induce vomiting, call a physician immediately. *Consult MSDS prior to use*
